Running Backs

Todd Gurley, Los Angeles Rams vs Seattle Seahawks – $9400

There is a good chance we are watching history with Todd Gurley’s race for the touchdown record. Gurley has been a revelation this season and that should continue this week against the Seahawks. Seattle is much more vulnerable against the run than the pass, and the Rams will ride Gurley to bounce back from their first loss of the season. In the team’s first matchup of the season, Gurley has three touchdowns. There is no reason to think he can not match that output this upcoming weekend.

Melvin Gordon, Los Angeles Chargers @ Oakland Raiders – $9000

The top-five priced back with the best matchup this weekend is Melvin Gordon facing the Oakland Raiders. Oakland is giving up the fourth most points per game to running backs this season. Gordon is the fifth highest scoring running back this season and is being fed the ball on the ground and air. This is a great time to jump into Gordon who not only has a great matchup but will have the positive game script to benefit him.

Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints @ Cincinnati Bengals – $8700

Another great matchup awaits Alvin Kamara and the Saints offense. Cincinnati’s defense has serious talent but they’ve been getting exposed on the ground and in the air. The Bengals rank as the eighth friendliest team to fantasy running backs. Kamara is not seeing the same amount of touches with Mark Ingram back but he’s still an elite option this weekend. Kamara’s coming off a three touchdown game and should see a lot of action to negate Cincinnati’s dangerous pass rush.

Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs vs Arizona Cardinals – $8500

The success of Patrick Mahomes has over-shadowed the fact that last year’s leading rusher Kareem Hunt is having another strong season. Hunt is the NFL’s third leading rusher and coming off a three touchdown game. This week he gets a Cardinals defense ranks as the second friendliest for fantasy running backs. They’ve also allowed the third most rushing touchdowns. With the likelihood that the Chiefs get out to a big lead, Hunt could be the offensive piece to grab.

Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals vs New Orleans Saints – $7700

The Bengals and Saints game is shaping up to be a high scoring affair. One of the options to grab as a contrarian play would be Bengals running back Joe Mixon. The Saints defense has been one of the better rushing defenses in the league and vulnerable through the air. That could be bad news for Mixon. The good news is that Mixon is involved in the passing game so there is a chance we see a game to be worth his almost $8000 price tag.

Value Running Backs

Jalen Richard, Oakland Raiders vs Los Angeles Chargers – $4800

The good news about the season progressing is seeing players go up against teams they’ve already fared well against. One player that fits that bill this weekend is Jalen Richard of the Oakland Raiders. Richard is the Raiders pass catching back and going up against one of the friendliest fantasy defenses for those types of players. The last time these two squared off Richard saw six catches for 53 yards. Any carries and production he gets on the ground will be gravy.

Duke Johnson Jr., Cleveland Browns vs Atlanta Falcons – $4700

Coming in just behind Richard on the pricing list is Cleveland’s Duke Johnson. A week ago, the change in the coaching staff finally saw the Browns highlighting Johnson. It looks like he is finally out of Hue Jackson jail. Now Johnson gets the Falcons defense that has allowed the most receptions to running backs in the league. Pair that with a game flow that will favor Johnson over Nick Chubb and this looks like a slam dunk.
