Round 3 – Pick 95

Dillon Mitchell, WR, Oregon

This is the pick the Jets acquired from the Teddy Bridgewater trade. New Orleans run deep into the playoffs pushed this pick back but it was a solid return and a very smart move by a savvy front office.

2019 is the “build around Darnold” draft for the Jets. They already got a franchise left tackle in the first round and in the third round are able to grab a great receiver prospect. Dillon Mitchell of Oregon is becoming a lost name in this absolutely loaded receiver class. A player of his caliber is rare to find in the third round.

Mitchell is a solid receiver at 6-foot-1 and can win in a variety of ways. He became star quarterback Justin Herbet’s top option during this past season. For all of the powerful offenses the Ducks have had over the year no receiver has been as productive as Mitchell, setting the school record for receiving yards.

Pac-12 defense is the best in the country so there will be questions on Mitchell’s ability to win on the outside against tough press. However, with his excellent footwork and hands it is something he can grow to do. Where he really will excel at the next level is when he gets the ball in his hands. He has an uncanny ability to find space when it looks like none is there.

For a third round pick he is exactly what the Jets should be looking for. He may not have one exceptional trait but he is a well-rounded receiver capable of helping out Darnold in a variety of ways.
