5. Clayton Geathers, Safety

The free agent market for safeties will be one of the most fascinating position groups to watch over the course of this offseason. With quite a bit of star power (Earl Thomas, Landon Collins, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix) slated to hit the open market, the Bears could quickly be priced out of retaining their own standout safety, Adrian Amos.

To replace him, Chicago could go after a player very familiar with new defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano in former Colts safety Clayton Geathers.

Geathers has struggled to stay healthy thus far in his NFL career, but enjoyed a breakout 2018 for a resurgent Indianapolis defense, totaling 89 total tackles and one forced fumble. Because of Geathers’ injury history, Chicago could be able to get him at a great value as a low-risk, high-reward pickup for the back of their defense.

As Eddie Jackson continues his ascent to NFL stardom, the Bears would be wise to pair him with a player like Geathers on the back end of their defense, particularly as a team without a huge amount of financial flexibility in what should be a very expensive free agent safeties market.
