Simon Pagenaud wins 2019 Indy 500 from pole position
Simon Pagenaud dominated from the pole position to win the 2019 Indy 500.
Sunday marked the running of the 2019 Indy 500 and No. 22 Simon Pagenaud took home the win after starting the race in pole position.
Pagenaud held the lead for much of the race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, though by its final 10 laps, he was battling it out with Alexander Rossi. Pagenaud held on at the end, beating out Rossi by two-tenths of a second.
This was Pagenaud’s first Indy 500 win, but he was considered one of the favorites to win it after earning pole position last week. Two weeks ago, Pagenaud also won the IndyCar Grand Prix. This was also Team Penske’s second-straight Indy 500 win, and their record 18th pole position start.
Pagenaud led for 116 of the race’s 200 laps, with Rossi leading for 22.
The race wasn’t without its “big one,” the multi-car crash that race fans come to expect. This year, it involved Graham Rahal, Sebastian Bourdais, Zach Veach, Felix Rosenqvist and Charlie Kimball. That resulted in a 30-minute delay.
