While Rocky Top is a land with plenty of traditions, perhaps the best is the classic white and orange color scheme worn by the Volunteers. With the Power T on the side of their helmets, Tennessee has a simple, defined appearance that is memorable and fits right in with the traditional looks of the SEC.

But the Vols are also a team that is not afraid to buck those traditions for a grand sartorial evolution. Take, for instance, the smoky gray uniforms that have become a staple in recent Tennessee seasons. First introduced while the team was still appareled by Adidas back in 2013, the look continued when the school switched to Nike as their uniform supplier.

Under current head coach Jeremy Pruitt, the look has been tabled in favor of keeping the Volunteers in their standard togs. Whether donning the orange jerseys with white pants at home or the all-white look on the road, Tennessee always comes out of the tunnel smartly dressed.

We are unlikely to see many changes to Tennessee’s appearance in the future with Pruitt at the helm and former coach Phillip Fulmer now in the athletic director position. Even without the smoky look, though, the Volunteers remain near the top of college football’s fashion contest.
