Fantasy football draft recap: Picking from the 5 spot!
Fantasy Football: High stakes FFPC draft pick 5
For reference, here is the DRAFT BOARD
Evan Engram is a great pick in the fourth round in this format. Really, he is. That’s what I keep telling myself. I wrote him up as a guy I loved this year as did my guy Joe Metz in a tight end article which can be found here.
The real issue with taking Engram here is the availability of some solid wide receivers we could have taken. It just felt strange building out the roster with a tight end on our team already after the 4th round. I’m not sure I can explain it beyond that.
Kenny Golladay or Tyler Boyd would’ve been a good pick here in the 5th. It’s hard not to love the Rams offense and I have seen Woods go in the 4th round in other drafts. We felt good about taking Robert Woods in the 5th and rounding our team out a bit more with a good receiver.
Two good running backs, two good wide receivers, and a tight end with a ton of opportunity. Sounds good right?
I really wanted Dede Westbrook or Josh Gordon here in the sixth. Having a solid stable of running backs is so important though. Duke Johnson and Austin Ekeler were both gone unfortunately and my buddy pointed out how much I have been talking about Derrius Guice.
I immediately got tunnel vision and couldn’t see us taking anyone else. This could still pan out really nicely for us but I do wish I pushed harder for Dede who will have an excellent year in the slot.
I know Latavius Murray is not as good as Mark Ingram. However, Ingram had a very solid and specific role carved out in the Saints offense. Also, it has been stated by the coaching staff that Kamara will not get more touches than previous years. They seem dedicated to the philosophy of a split and I think that’s smart. I’m happy with guaranteed production here and touchdown upside.
