Fantasy Football: Week 9 position by position rankings
Running Backs
I thought this section was for running backs, not wide receivers, but here sits Aaron Jones as fantasy football RB1 with only 67 yards rushing. Jones was a weapon through the air for Aaron Rodgers, racking up 159 receiving yards on seven catches including two touchdowns. Has Jones finally been freed? This showing should certainly help is playing time (and fantasy football value) going forward.
Latavius Murray had another outstanding game receiving the bulk of the workload for the Saints with Alvin Kamara sidelined for a second straight week. Murray has a whopping total of 68.7 ESPN PPR fantasy football points in just a two-week span. I’d expect Kamara back playing after the bye this week, but if you were able to take advantage of his absence with Murray in your lineup, props to you.
Tevin Coleman was fantasy football RB2 last week, scoring four total touchdowns and running for over 100 yards against the good Panthers defense last week. With Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert banged up, it should be the Tevin Coleman show going forward for the Niners, a role Coleman was never really able to assume with Devonta Freeman in Atlanta.
I correctly predicted six of the top 10 running backs last week, not including Dalvin Cook who had already played when this article was published and would have undoubtedly made the cut if ranked prior to Thursday Night Football.

It seems as though we really have a running back “holy trinity” when it comes to fantasy football. The top two picks in pretty much all fantasy football drafts this year were Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey. Throw in a healthy Dalvin Cook and we have a three-headed monster at the top of the running back rankings every week, regardless of matchup.
This week, Cook has the best matchup, going against a Chiefs defense that just allowed Aaron Jones to be fantasy football RB1 in week eight. McCaffrey has a tough matchup against the Titans, but that didn’t stop him from producing last week against the best defense against opposing fantasy football running backs, the San Francisco 49ers. Barkley seems to have gotten his feet back under him and should rise to the occasion on Monday Night Football against rival Dallas.
I like Nick Chubb against the Broncos this week, as I think the Browns dominate the game and he holds onto the ball this week. I love LeVeon Bell this week. If there was ever a time to prove that he was worthy of his contract and a top five pick in fantasy football it would be this week. After rumors with his name swirled at the trade deadline, Bell gets the Dolphins defense to go out against and make a statement.
I’m also starting guys like Derrick Henry vs CAR, Melvin Gordon vs GB (who may want to show his hometown team why they should’ve traded for him before the deadline or why the should offer him a big contract in free agency), Jordan Howard vs his former team, and Carlos Hyde against his former team (for a second last year).
I would try to avoid playing guys like Adrian Peterson, who despite some recent success is banged up and facing a tough Bills D, Mark Ingram against that vaunted Patriots defense, and LeSean McCoy, who is in a murky RB committee situation in Kansas City and is facing a tough matchup against the Vikings.
