Shifting Gears

Next up on the broadcast is the “major announcement” from AEW Executive Vice President and No. 1 contender for the AEW World Championship, Cody.

Cody makes his grandiose entrance as Tony Schiavone waits in the ring with a microphone. Cody starts off his promo by explaining that he’s not surprised with how The Inner Circle made an impact as they were all scouted by AEW as solid competition for The Elite. Cody then turns his attention towards the AEW Champion and his Full Gear opponent, Chris Jericho.

Cody brings up past wrestlers that were also managers behind the scenes of their own companies and talks about the stigma of that. Cody understands the stigma and when people compare these men of the past to him he says that he can’t not hear it.

So Cody announces that if he loses this match to Jericho then he will never challenge for the AEW title again.

Cody calls out Jericho’s hypocrisy for calling Cody an “entitled millennial with a silver spoon” and mentions how Jericho grew up entitled as well. Cody then states that Jericho needs this current generation of wrestlers more than this generation needs him. Cody ends his promo by saying that he and The Elite are coming for The Inner Circle and they are going to eat them alive.

What a promo! If fans weren’t sold on this marquee title fight yet they are now.
