2. Houston Texans

Most teams that change their look are doing so to represent a new direction for the franchise. The Texans should change things up as a form of Witness Protection — few teams need to escape their past more than Houston does.

There are key elements here that typically come with a rebrand. Deshaun Watson is a star, J.J. Watt still has staying power as a national figure, and the team is hoping to be recognized as winners. Typically you want to dress your best for such an occasion, and the Texans can use that facade as a means of distracting us from the fact that they’d really be rebranding to help us forget who they are.

It’s been a rough go for Texans fans lately. Despite having an electric quarterback and Super Bowl aspirations each year, the cloud of Bill O’Brien rains out every parade of joy. From inexplicable coaching decisions that lead to blown playoff leads, to the trading of a franchise star for…well, we still don’t really know why.

Houston getting new uniforms would be less of a rebrand and more of a facelift. They’re in a prime position to package it as the first time they’ve really drastically changed up their uniform look which safeguards against smarter fans realizing the real reason behind a change. The Texans updating their look would be painless and could have positive psychological effects on fans who have been so bludgeoned with heartbreak.
