2. The Cowboys will trade down in Round 1

Dallas is one of the more interesting teams to watch in this year’s draft. They currently own the No. 17 overall selection. That could put them in prime position to snap up a highly rated player who suffers a slide during the draft.

That’s not the prudent choice for the Cowboys though. The franchise would be better served to trade out of Round 1 to add more picks in Rounds 2 and 3. The roster still has several relatively high-profile needs they need to fill via the draft.

Finding an edge rusher to compete with Tyrone Crawford is important. Another defensive tackle to challenge McCoy and Poe could also pay big dividends. The offense also needs a slot receiver to replace Randall Cobb.

The Cowboys just have more needs than picks at the moment. Jones isn’t a general manager who likes to trade down and miss the drama and intrigue of Round 1, but it’s the right move for him to make this year. The bold part of this prediction is believing he’ll pass on sizzle for more substance.
