If the Dodgers win the World Series this year, will it be satisfying?

It feels like the last five seasons, at least, have been the year the Los Angeles Dodgers win their first World Series since 1988. And yet, every year something happens to shoot those dreams right to hell. Whatever the issue: Clayton Kershaw tanking in the post-season, a shotty bullpen or the worst of them all … other teams cheating, somehow the Dodgers were never the ones celebrating with their city.

This season was no different. Even before COVID-19 hit the Dodgers were slowly becoming the team to beat in 2020. The solidified that talk with the signing of Mookie Betts.

Then the world changed.

Now that the season is shorter and the teams aren’t playing as many non-important teams, it seems whoever may end up as World Series champs in 2020 won’t get as much respect as the team who wins it in a “normal” season. And they are somewhat right, this is a unique season, but it’s in no way easier.

Whoever gets that title should be proud and should absolutely get the same respect afforded to any other non-cheating (ahem Astros) team.

Of course, as a die-hard Dodgers fan, the win will be amazing. It will be decades in the making. There will be Dodgers fans who have never seen the team win a series. There will be fans who have waited 40 plus years for the team to be on top of the world yet again and trust us, to them, the shortened season won’t matter.

So yes … when the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series this year it will still be beyond satisfying.
