The WNBA has done an outstanding job with honoring the life of Breonna Taylor and today’s in-game moment just added another touching element to the already moving tributes seen around the league.
Ahead of Sunday’s game between the Las Vegas Aces and Chicago Sky the teams aired a video montage of photos of Taylor. They stood in a uniformed line, facing the screen with their heads bowed.
Who is Breonna Taylor?
Taylor was killed on March 13 when Louisville, KY police officers opened fired on her in the middle of the night. They were reportedly serving a no-knock warrant and were wearing plain clothes. Her boyfriend fired at the officers who he thought were breaking into the home. She was shot eight times.
Her death and the death of George Floyd became symbols to the Black Lives Movement which gained in attention in the last few months.
The players in the WNBA were also allowed to choose the names of women killed, like Taylor for their jerseys this season. NBA stars like Lebron James and others have offered personal tributes to Taylor and Floyd.
