Jalen Reagor is turning heads at Eagles camp with great play
By Mike Luciano
Jalen Reagor has been a real standout at Eagles camp.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ demise last season was due, in part, to a cast of practice squad wide receivers like Greg Ward and Deontay Burnett being thrust into featured roles thanks to some comical injury luck.
The Eagles knew they had to address this position in the offseason, and they did so by picking TCU wideout Jalen Reagor in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Based on the early returns they’re seeing in practice, Philly has to be very pleased with their selection.
A league source told FanSided that the explosive Reagor is impressing at Eagles training camp, as his blistering speed and solid route-running have already won over head coach Doug Pederson and quarterback Carson Wentz.
Jalen Reagor has extremely high expectations after being picked in the first round.
Reagor’s speed was rumored to be in the 4.2 range, but a 4.47 40 at the combine coupled with a statistical regression put him on the fringes of the first round entering the 2020 NFL Draft. Unbothered by these concerns, the Eagles took him ahead of LSU star Justin Jefferson with the 21st pick.
Between Reagor and breakout running back Miles Sanders, the Eagles are in possession of some of the best young skill position players in the game. Should Wentz’s health not fail him again and Zach Ertz remains in the conversation for best receiving tight end in the league, the Eagles should be able to ride their passing attack to the postseason once again.
Alshon Jeffery has been declining, DeSean Jackson is on his last legs, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside was extremely disappointing as a rookie. That confluence of circumstances might force Reagor into a featured role on offense. Based on his performance in camp, the Eagles should feel more than confident with throwing Reagor into the fire and allowing him to take the top off of the defense.
