Atlanta Braves starter Cole Hamels is getting closer to his return for the club right when they need him the most.

It goes without saying, but the Atlanta Braves haven’t had much luck with their starting rotation. Injuries have really hurt them. The long list of hurlers to be sidelined includes standout hurler Cole Hamels.

However, the lefty is inching closer and closer to getting ready to get back on the bump for Atlanta and skipper Brian Snitker. That much was made clear after he had himself a fine showing in his most recent appearance at the team’s alternate site.

Hamels is scheduled to make his Braves debut next week in Baltimore

The 36-year-old Hamels signed a one-year contract with Atlanta during the offseason. However, he’s yet to take the bump for the team this summer because of triceps and shoulder injuries. That’s about to change soon, however, as Snitker said this weekend that the plan is for Hamels to start next Wednesday against the Orioles.

For Chicago, getting Hamels back will obviously be a great feeling. The team is also set to get Max Friend back soon after he was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a back injury. There was concern Fried’s injury may have been a serious one, but he’s expected to be back in no time.

Remember, the team lost ace hurler Mike Soroka in August to a torn Achilles tendon, which of course was a massive blow to the rotation.

For the team to go on a serious run this postseason, they’ll need the rotation to be pretty dang healthy along the way. Getting Hamels back will be the beginning of some much-needed good news on that front for Atlanta.
