Ezekiel Elliott has fewer rushing touchdowns this season than Alvin Kamara had in one game
Ezekiel Elliott’s numbers look even worse after seeing what Alvin Kamara did on Christmas.
Alvin Kamara had a record-setting day for the New Orleans Saints on Christmas. He ran for six touchdowns and easily could have had seven if Sean Payton didn’t give one to Taysom Hill.
Anyway, six touchdowns in one game is insane, and it’s better than what Ezekiel Elliott has done all season. Yes, you read that right.
Alvin Kamara showed up Ezekiel Elliott in one Christmas game
That tweet was sent out before the Dallas Cowboys took on the Philadelphia Eagles, but it still holds true as Elliott couldn’t find the end zone in their 37-17 win.
This stat strictly focuses on rushing touchdowns. In addition to Elliott’s five rushing touchdowns, he also has two through the air. Still, the point remains the same.
Kamara now has 16 rushing touchdowns and five as a receiver. He has also only lost one fumble. Elliott has lost six, which is a higher total than his rushing touchdowns.
The Cowboys had a hot start to the year on offense before Dak Prescott went down with his injury. Elliott was supposed to be the savior, but he has only reached the 100-yard mark twice this season and is fighting just to reach 1,000 on the year in Week 17. He does have the edge over Kamara in actual rushing yards this year, however, the Saints back has nearly 800 receiving yards as well.
This comparison would be a statement on finances if not for Kamara’s big extension earlier this year. He is getting and earning his money, while Jerry Jones has to consider if Elliott is worth keeping around for the duration of his contract. The dead cap value drops to $6.7 million in 2023, so the running back has some time to turn things around when cutting him sooner would simply be too expensive.
It is still possible the Cowboys make the postseason if everything goes their way Sunday. Perhaps Elliott could redeem himself with a huge game of his own in the postseason to advance the Cowboys. That would be even more shocking than Kamara’s big Christmas performance.
