Ezekiel Elliott’s comment about playoff hopes will pump up Cowboys fans

Ezekiel Elliott is confident in the Cowboys’ NFC playoff chances…if they get there.

The Cowboys are surging at the right time, perhaps saving Mike McCarthy in the process. McCarthy was having a dreadful first season in charge at Jerryworld, losing Dak Prescott for the season early on and never recovering…or so we thought. Andy Dalton is finally playing like the capable backup Dallas thought they were getting when they signed him this offseason. In Dalton’s one-year try-out in Dallas, both sides are getting what they want.

Entering Week 17, the Cowboys have a chance to make the postseason should they beat the Giants, and Washington lose its final game against the Eagles. It’s very possible, especially given Washington’s reliance on a hobbled Alex Smith.

Elliott is confident in how the Cowboys are playing

“We’re just starting to play better, and I think the biggest thing that’s helped is the defense getting all those turnovers,” Elliott said. “That definitely helps us out, swings momentum, puts us in good field position, gives us better chances to score. And then we’re just executing. We’ve just been playing a lot better football.”

“We can be dangerous if we get in that thing,” Elliott continued.

He’s right. Suddenly, the Cowboys defense is playing at a capable level, while the offense is firing on all cylinders. That’s enough to make Dallas a tough out, at least in the Wild Card round, should they get there. And thanks to a flawed NFC playoff format, they’d get a home playoff game at AT&T Stadium.

Despite all the negativity in Dallas midseason, the Cowboys have stuck together and are in position to potentially make a run at this thing. Give McCarthy some credit.
