Sammy Watkins’ tweet might really rile up Browns for the Chiefs
By Mike Luciano
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins might’ve accidentally fired up the Cleveland Browns.
The Cleveland Browns defied the odds last week, taking down the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers on the road despite losing several key contributors and head coach Kevin Stefanski.
The win came just days after Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster mocked the Browns for their lack of recent success. Apparently taking nothing from that concerning case study, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins chose to make fun of Cleveland on Twitter.
When a Chiefs fan expressed hope that the Chiefs may actually have some competition next week, Watkins stopped short of declaring the Browns as legit competition, apparently having forgotten what happened when Smith-Schuster poked the bear last week.
Sammy Watkins is acting very bold after the Browns demolished the Steelers
While Kansas City’s willingness to go down the field in the passing game could present a problem for a Browns team that has been ravaged by injuries and COVID-19, Cleveland showed during that the first quarter against Pittsburgh what an opportunistic team they can be.
If Kansas City makes mistakes as frequently as the Steelers did, the Browns could pull off the upset.
Kansas City isn’t above getting a little spicy on social media, but Watkins is falling into the same trap JuJu did, dismissing the Browns out of hand due to their recent history as a doormat. If Mahomes and the offense don’t light up the scoreboard, Baker Mayfield and their dominant ground game could pull off yet another monumental upset.
Mayfield and the Browns have clearly relished their underdog role, and they won’t be a bigger underdog than when they take on Kansas City at Arrowhead. Knowing how this team feeds off of negativity and doubt, Watkins’ take could come back to bite the Chiefs in the butt.
