Green Bay Packers. Mike Pettine. 49. Scouting Report. Defensive Coordinator. 2. player. Pick Analysis

The Packers lost out on the chance to play in Super Bowl 54 due to the abysmal showing of Green Bay’s defense. In fact, running back Raheem Mostert rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns in the 37-20 victory last year. The loss caused many a Packers fan to call for defensive coordinator Mike Pettine’s job. Yet, the team retained him because they still had faith.

Heading into the NFC Championship Game, Pettine said he learned from the embarrassing loss from the previous season. Additionally, he has experience dealing with Brady, as he was the defensive coordinator of the New York Jets team that upset the New England Patriots in the 2010 Divisional Round.

This was Pettine’s moment at redemption, and he squandered it.

Green Bays defense was picked apart by Brady, as he had all the time in the world while standing in the pocket. Even casual football fans know that not putting pressure on Brady will come back to haunt a team. The Packers only managed to get one sack on the six-time Super Bowl champion the entire game. Pettine didn’t help matters with his play-calling either, specifically the final play of the first half, where Brady exposed Pettine’s defense and hit Scotty Miller for a 39-yard touchdown.

The Packers’ championship window is closing, and they need to make some drastic changes if they want to finally get passed the NFC Championship Round. The first place Green Bay can start is by replacing Pettine.
