Raiders: 3 available quarterbacks better than Derek Carr
2. Russell Wilson
Even as Wilson goes against his previous template and starts to make his displeasure in Seattle public, a $39 million cap charge for the Seahawks if they trade him means he stretches the term “available” this offseason. The numbers shift to just $13 million in dead money if a trade is official after June 1, so that’s a possible path to trading Wilson if it gets to that point of discontent for both sides this offseason.
In a lot of respects, the Raiders could be a preferred landing spot for Wilson. A no-trade clause gives him the power to choose his destination, whether the Seahawks want to send him to a particular place or not. But the Raiders are in the AFC, so they wouldn’t have to face Wilson on a regular basis if he was traded to them.
For what it’s worth, the Raiders emerged among the betting favorites to trade for Wilson last week as he was making his media rounds. If this were a year from now, the chances would be way better for Wilson to be traded. But there’s no doubt he is a far better quarterback than Carr, and the Raiders surely have him somewhere on their radar.
