Ossai was getting legitimate first round buzz earlier in the offseason, but now his stock seems to have settled firmly towards the bottom of Round 2. The Packers should draft him to serve as Preston Smith’s replacement at outside linebacker.

Smith will almost certainly get cut due to the team’s cap concerns. That leaves Green Bay with an obvious need to find another guy who can rush the passer from a standing position. That is Ossai’s specialty.

It might take him some time to learn the intricacies of being a coverage guy at the pro level, but over the long haul he has the ability to develop into a three-down linebacker. That’s not how Green Bay should use him right away, but it definitely adds value to him as a prospect.

As a rookie, Ossai can step right in and help the Packers wreak havoc from the defensive perimeter. He won’t be an immediate star in Green Bay, but he has a chance to develop into a quality starter over time. That’s great value towards the bottom of Round 2.
