Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst will call Aaron Rodgers’ bluff.

With Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst refusing to change his stance on quarterback Aaron Rodgers, it seems as though he will be willing to call the quarterback’s bluff.

Rodgers may be absent from the Packers’ organized team activities while thoroughly enjoying himself in Hawaii. That is fine and all, but Gutekunst is banking on the fact Rodgers will swallow his pride and show up for training camp or anything mandatory regarding Packers football this summer. Gutekunst will probably win out, but that does not put him back in Rodgers’ good graces.

Are we on the precipice of the reigning NFL MVP playing out one last spite season in Green Bay?

Rodgers is under contract with the Packers through the 2023 NFL season. However, there is a potential out in his contract after this year. While Rodgers has spent his entire NFL career in Green Bay out of Cal, he could be hitting free agency next spring ahead of his age-39 season. Other hall-of-fame quarterbacks have played the twilight of their illustrious careers somewhere else before.

Truth be told, if someone blinks in this high-profile staring contest of extreme pettiness, it will be Rodgers. He only has so many years left in the tank, and this Packers team is a serious contender to get to Super Bowl 56 in Los Angeles. That is too good of an opportunity to pass up. However, if Rodgers returns to Green Bay this summer, it would really feel like his last year with the Packers.

Gutekunst may be willing to call Rodgers’ bluff, but he is making the eventual divorce inevitable.
