4. Bears intercept Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson twice

Go back to 2018 during Matt Nagy’s first season as the Bears’ head coach. The defensive coordinator was Vic Fangio. General manager Ryan Pace orchestrated a trade for star defender Khalil Mack. Chicago finished 12-4 and won the NFC North.

That season, the Bears gave up the fewest points in the league and led the NFL with 36 takeaways – including a gaudy 27 interceptions. A year later, Fangio left the Windy City and became the sideline leader of the Broncos. And apparently, he took that opportunistic touch with him.

That’s because this club hasn’t been the same when it comes to forcing opponents into crucial mistakes. In 2019, the Bears picked off only 10 passes and finished with 19 takeaways. A year later, it was 10 interceptions and eight fumble recoveries. This season, Nagy’s club has forced only nine turnovers.

Chicago has intercepted just four passes while giving up 16 aerial scores. And three of those picks came at the expense of Bengals’ quarterback Joe Burrow in Week 2. That means that the club has failed to intercept an opponent in seven of the club’s nine outings.

It’s worth noting that three times this season, Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson has thrown a pair of interceptions.
