Let’s put it simply, the Lakers went old in the front court and it hasn’t paid off for them. Dwight Howard and DeAndrew Jordan haven’t gotten the job done. LA can’t hope to achieve much this season with them supporting Anthony Davis.

The solution is to get a bit younger and find an upgrade via the buyout market. There’s one such name out there who can help: Tristan Thompson.

The former Cavaliers big man has bounced around with the Celtics and Kings over the last two years. He just got traded to the Pacers after averaging 6.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in 30 appearances this season.

Things clearly didn’t work out for Thompson in Sacramento but he’s familiar with LeBron after their time in Cleveland together. A reunion could be just the think Los Angeles need.

Getting him would mean dropping Jordan, but that’s no great sacrifice at this point.

Would Thompson be a savior for the Lakers? No, they still have to get plenty of other things in order. He’d definitely fill a gap in the current roster though.
