2. Arkansas Razorbacks

The Arkansas Razorbacks looked like they were going to be a consistent figure in the AP Top 25. They started off the year with a 3-0 record following wins over Cincinnati, South Carolina, and Missouri State. But then, they picked up a losing streak.

Last week, Arkansas suffered a heartbreaking loss to Texas A&M after kicker Cam Little’s field goal attempt hit the top of the upright, giving the Aggies the 23-21 win. It would not get any easier for the Razorbacks, as they had to face the second-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 5.

Give credit where credit is due, Arkansas really had Alabama on the ropes at one point, where they turned a 28-0 lead for Alabama into a 28-23 deficit. The Crimson Tide were without Bryce Young, who left in the second quarter due to a shoulder injury. Even in his absence, Alabama still managed to retake a dominant lead, earning a 49-26 victory.

Backup quarterback Jalen Milroe did not have to do much against Arkansas, as the running game took over. Jahmyr Gibbs picked up 206 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.

The season started off with such promise for Arkansas. Now with two losses to their credit, it may be a while until Arkansas makes it back into the Top 25, if at all.
