Toasty Buns: Which college football head coach’s seat is the hottest entering Week 7?
By John Buhler
If Neal Brown wants to stay in Morgantown, he must start winning Big 12 games
At 2-3, there is not much belief that Neal Brown will be allowed to continue coaching at West Virginia beyond this year. It is all Big 12 games the rest of the way for WVU and the ‘Eers are already 0-2 in that department. Not to say hosting Baylor on a Thursday night is a must-win, but there are no excuses for West Virginia to come out flat in this gotta-have-it game for the program.
Let’s say WVU beats Baylor at home to get back to .500 at 3-3. Are there three wins to be had the rest of the way for Brown’s team? At Oklahoma State at the end of the year is a loss, as is hosting TCU in two weeks. Oklahoma is beatable at home, and maybe you get lucky vs. Kansas State in Morgantown? Otherwise, it puts an absurd amount of pressure to win in Ames and in Lubbock…
If Brown cannot get West Virginia to .500 this season, WVU will need to find a new head coach.
If it goes bad for Bryan Harsin at Ole Miss, he could be out as Auburn’s coach
Although Auburn may have what it takes to get to 6-6 for a second consecutive regular season under Bryan Harsin, what makes you believe he will even be afforded that opportunity? Auburn got annihilated Between the Hedges last week to cross-divisional rival Georgia. With a road date at Ole Miss, Auburn probably is heading into its bye week at 3-4. Will they make the move then?
A loss at Ole Miss may be what it takes for the impatient Auburn boosters to finally oust Harsin. Their former athletic director Allen Greene is already out. Should Auburn be 3-4 heading into Halloween, the Tigers would need to win three of four between Arkansas, Mississippi State, Western Kentucky and Texas A&M. It goes without saying they are not winning the Iron Bowl…
If Auburn gets blown to smithereens at Vaught-Hemingway, Harsin will be toast on The Plains.
