Lincoln Riley needs another year to wash the Clay Helton stink off USC defense
Who didn’t see this coming? Oklahoma might be having its best day since TBOW left them like a bad dad would for a pack of Camels, but deep down, we all knew USC was not destined for the College Football Playoff under new head coach Lincoln Riley. The Trojans massively overachieved the first six weeks of the season. Unfortunately, Utah carved up their defense badly in Salt Lake.
Admittedly, it is good to have USC back as a team worth caring about in the college football pantheon. Their rise out west is for real and has made the Pac-12 better by comparison. However, 2022 USC is closer to Clay Helton USC than it is to peak Riley Sooners. Unfortunately, OU didn’t play a lick of defense for its former head coach. USC needs to be way more balanced next season.
2023 was always going to be the year for USC, but it was great to see them be ahead of schedule.
Big Ten. (5-1). Penn State Nittany Lions. 806. Scouting Report. 1. player. Pick Analysis
Penn State is not winning the Big Ten East, so let’s see if Drew Allar can sling it
There was a reason why Penn State was not even ranked to start the season. For as much money as James Franklin is getting paid these days, his team’s offense is pedestrian. Rolling with sixth-year senior Sean Clifford for another week is a massive waste of everyone’s time. Losing in The Big House to Michigan is totally understandable, but he is not beating Ohio State at home for them.
This is why it will serve the Nittany Lions to see what star freshman quarterback Drew Allar can do for them going forward. He is their future. While he may not be ready for the task at hand vs. Ohio State, this game is at home and the Buckeyes are more of an offensive-minded team more than anything. Even more so, they have not played a great opponent just yet either. So make the move!
The quickest way for Nittany Lions fans to turn on Franklin (again) is for the offense to stagnate.
