2. Georgia Bulldogs

Opponent: Tennessee | Time: Saturday, Nov. 5, 3:30 p.m. ET | Spread: UGA -8.5

Yes, I’m aware that the first College Football Playoff rankings have Tennessee at No. 1 and Georgia at No. 3. But the point spread is the best indicator of an upset most times and the Dawgs are favored by more than a touchdown in Athens for this huge showdown between SEC East rivals.

In actuality, whichever way you want to say this could be an upset on Saturday works because both teams can win this game. On one hand, Tennessee has not faced a defense the caliber of Georgia’s, nor has their impressive pass rush faced an offensive line on the level of the Bulldogs. Contrarily, UGA hasn’t been up against an offense as truly lethal as the one the Vols have behind Hendon Hooker.

My gut still tells me that Georgia is going to assert itself and win this game, but they get involved in the college football upset picks this week because Tennessee is that damn good and could very well not have their surging train stopped at Sanford Stadium.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

Opponent: at LSU | Time: Saturday, Nov. 5, 7:00 p.m. ET | Spread: ALA -13.5

The other massive SEC matchup on the docket is Alabama making its annual date with rival LSU as they travel to Death Valley. And that’s the first place to start because a night game in Baton Rouge is one of the toughest environments to play in across all of college football and it’s something Bryce Young and Co. are going to have to contend with.

But when you get down to the football, Brian Kelly has seemingly found something with his LSU team, particularly on offense. Jayden Daniels has looked like a bonafide star over the past couple of games. More importantly, Alabama’s defense struggled immensely with the mobility of Hendon Hooker and the talented Tennessee receivers in their lone loss, but that’s something that LSU can replicate.

Make no mistake, Young and the Crimson Tide offense should score on a porous Tigers defense, but much like the loss to the Vols, LSU has the recipe to match that. This spread is far too big and LSU has a very legitimate shot at pulling off the upset in Death Valley.
