TCU, Texas battle for the title of who’s not actually overrated

The TCU Horned Frogs and Texas Longhorns face off in Week 11 to see who is actually legitimate in the Big 12 conference.

Last week, the college football world turned upside down after 10 ranked teams all lost. That caused tremendous shakeup in the second College Football Playoff rankings, and one of the beneficiaries were the TCU Horned Frogs. As one of the lone undefeated teams of the season, TCU made the jump from No. 7 to No. 4.

There was debate as to whether the Horned Frogs should even be ranked ahead of the Tennessee Volunteers based off their strength of schedule. Nonetheless, TCU has the chance to prove itself against another ranked team in the Big 12 conference. That’s right, they are set to face the No. 18 Texas Longhorns.

Realistically, this will show who will not be considered overrated among college football fans.

TCU looks to prove they belong in Top 4 with win over Texas

The Horned Frogs are 9-0 entering Week 11. While there was an argument to be made that Tennessee had five wins over ranked teams, TCU has four to their credit, coming against the Oklahoma Sooners, Kansas Jayhawks, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Kansas State Wildcats. That’s right, all of them are in the Big 12.

When looking at the ranked wins, TCU’s most convincing came against Oklahoma, as they won 55-24. Their closest contest arrived against Oklahoma State, then the eighth-ranked team at the time, picking up a 43-40 win in double overtime.

As is the case every year, the college football world waits to see if Texas is back, as Longhorns fans scream every start of the season. The declaration made by Sam Ehlinger after their 2019 Sugar Bowl win has not aged well. This year, they are well out of Playoff range, considering they have three losses on the year.

The Longhorns showed promise early on in the year, as they nearly handed Alabama their first loss of the season in Week 2, but lost 20-19. Their other two losses were just as heart-wrenching. Texas lost 37-34 in overtime to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Then, they blew a 34-24 lead to Oklahoma State, and lost 41-34. In regards to the Oklahoma State game, Texas had two chances to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but quarterback Quinn Ewers threw interceptions on both drives.

Both teams play in primetime on ABC this Saturday, and both have something to prove. TCU will look to show that they do belong in the CFP semifinal conversation, while Texas tries to play spoiler and that they shouldn’t be overlooked moving forward.
