3) MLB rumors: Dansby Swanson calls Wrigley home when he signs with the Cubs

Dansby Swanson seems to fit in well with what the Chicago Cubs did last offseason. They made win-now moves, but not to the extent where anyone seriously believed they’d be in contention. The way they have handled the roster is definitely questionable. It seems all they’ll gain from Willson Contreras’ departure is a draft pick. Fortunately, it may still end up being more than what anyone was offering at last year’s trade deadline.

The Cubs, as much as they get mentioned in the MLB rumors involving these shortstops, are actually in decent shape at the position. Nico Hoerner looked good last year. The thought is that with few quality second basemen available, the team is in better shape signing a shortstop and moving Hoerner over one position. It’s logical since it makes the Cubs a better team than trying to plug in many of the other realistic options at second base.

Swanson already has a connection to Chicago, too. His fiancé, Mallory Pugh, plays for the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League. The two would be able to settle down together in one city. Maybe the Cubs pay Swanson enough to buy the Home Alone house out in the Chicago suburbs.

Turner goes to the Phillies. Bogaerts replaces him on the Dodgers. The Cubs make a big swing and land Swanson. This leaves us with only Carlos Correa left to discuss. Where do the MLB rumors end with him?
