Kansas State vs TCU: 3 bold predictions for the Big 12 Championship Game
By John Buhler
2. This will be a one-score affair this time in the rematch over in Jerryworld
Since the Big 12 is only a 10-team league, it uses a nine-game, round-robin regular-season format where everybody plays everybody. Though it will change next season once BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF join the conference, Kansas State taking on TCU Saturday will be a rematch in Arlington. It has been this way since the Big 12 was allowed to hold a conference title bout again.
However, expect for this to be a one-score game between two top-10 teams on a neutral site. TCU won the regular-season game in Fort Worth by 10 points back on Oct. 23, 38-28. Though TCU has the better team, it is important to know that K-State head coach Chris Klieman has been in many championship settings before from his days leading FCS powerhouse North Dakota State.
Thus, the margin for victory in Saturday’s showdown in Jerryworld will be by eight points or less.
1. Max Duggan earns trip to New York City, as TCU is heading to the Fiesta Bowl
While he may have already earned his seat to New York City, Horned Frogs quarterback Max Duggan will be the one to propel TCU to victory No. 13 on the year with a Heisman Trophy-worthy performance. Even though the award is almost certainly going to USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams at this point in time, do not be shocked if Duggan is the guy who finishes as runner-up.
Since this looks to be a one-score game on a neutral site, the cooler heads will prevail. Although TCU is not going to run its special teams unit out there in a fire drill to hit a game-winning field goal as time expired to stay perfect, Duggan will cement his legacy as one of the greatest players in TCU history with his performance vs. Kansas State on Saturday. Duggan will be why TCU wins.
This means TCU will lock up the No. 3 seed, probably playing No. 2 Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl.
Final score: TCU 31, Kansas State 27.
