Aaron Rodgers rumors: Dream trade No. 2 to help the Packers – San Francisco 49ers

We already know two things about Aaron Rodgers and the 49ers. First, we know that the quarterback wanted to be drafted by the team he grew up rooting for as a California native but was passed up on. Second, we know that head coach Kyle Shanahan has already expressed interest in a possible trade because he admitted to calling the Packers during previous trade talks.

There are some complications with a trade now, however. Jimmy Garoppolo would be a perfect trade chip for the 49ers to deal but he’s a free agent after this season and can’t be tagged. That takes him off the table as a stopgap option for Green Bay to get in return. Moreover, San Francisco doesn’t have a first-round pick in 2023, which further hurts the situation.

That’s why the dream trade for the Packers and 49ers would look something like this.

Green Bay would have to wait until 2024 to get the first-round pick they want in return while also getting a Top 100 pick in this year’s draft. More importantly, though, they would get a young former first-round pick at wide receiver to help sweeten the deal by landing Brandon Aiyuk.

San Francisco might be hesitant to give up Aiyuk but with Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle all locked up, it’s a concession they can afford to make if they want to give Trey Lance more time coming off his injury and let Rodgers guide the franchise for the next couple of seasons.
