5 Alabama stars who won’t be back in 2023 and who will replace them
Bryce Young has been an all-time great and Alabama doesn’t have a clear successor
It’s hard to think what the 2022 Alabama season would’ve looked like if not for having a superstar like Bryce Young at quarterback.
Yes, it was a disappointing year as 10-2 is not the standard for this program under Saban, but they very well could’ve been 7-5 if not for having a generational talent under center. Despite missing time, the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner still threw for 3,007 yards, 27 touchdowns and only five interceptions while also rushing for four scores.
And even those stats don’t take into account his playmaking. So often, he and the offense looked dead to rights and he would make something out of nothing. It was a special and remarkable performance throughout the season and one that can’t go overlooked for how good he was. In that same vein, though, losing him is the team’s biggest worry for the 2023 as there’s not a clear replacement ready.
Alabama replacement for Bryce Young: Maybe Jalen Milroe
When Young missed time due to injury, it was Jalen Milroe who filled in. While he flashed potential, the inconsistency didn’t inspire much confidence. On the current roster, though, it’s either Milroe or former highly rated recruit Ty Simpson that would be in line to replace Young.
With that being said, some intriguing transfer options could be in play with guys like Sam Hartman, Grayson McCall and Brennan Armstrong still available in the portal. We shall see how Saban moves to replace his superstar quarterback officially.
