Jalen Carter could be the first player taken this spring, but won’t get past No. 6

At this time, there are only four players worthy of being the No. 1 overall selection in the draft. Those four players are Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud, Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. and Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter. If the Chicago Bears want to keep the No. 1 pick and do not trade back, then it must be either Anderson or Carter.

However, quarterback-desperate teams may want to get into the top three to land either Stroud or Young. This could allow for a generational interior defensive line talent like Carter to drop just a tad. If his former Georgia teammate Jordan Davis is the next Warren Sapp or NFL Shaq, then Carter has a chance to be the next Fletcher Cox or Ndamukong Suh. Carter could be an all-time talent.

There are only a few locks of players who will be going inside the top 10 and Carter is one of them.

Arizona Cardinals do not need to overthink this and draft the defensive disruptor

The team to watch be in the mix to draft Carter would have to be the Arizona Cardinals. This is because Chicago may go with Anderson over him with the No. 1 overall pick. Since teams like the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders all need starting quarterbacks, that puts Arizona in an advantageous spot to take the best player available because they have Kyler Murray.

Since Arizona still needs to hire its new head coach, it remains to be seen what new general manager Monti Ossenfort will want to do with the No. 3 pick. Then again, nobody is going to blame him if he stood pat and drafted either Anderson or Carter with this selection. A great way to build a winning culture is to not reach on draft picks. Carter is worthy of going in the top five.

Arizona needs some juice on the defensive side of the ball, and Carter could provide that for them.
