Under-the-radar winners of the college football transfer portal

Oklahoma Sooners

What did Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables decide to invest in after his defense gave up 30 points per game in 2022? All the defensive linemen he could get his hands on.

And Venables got some good ones too.

Dasan McCullough is the talisman of the transfer class at edge rusher. 247Sports considered him the No. 2 defensive lineman in the portal after posting 6.5 tackles for loss, including four sacks, as a freshman at Indiana.

McCullough will be joined by a veteran defensive line addition in Rondell Bothroyd. The Super Senior collected 31 tackles for loss during his five seasons with Wake Forest. In 2021 he had 16.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks, just to give you a taste of how disruptive he can be.

But wait, there’s more, Notre Dame’s Jacob Lacey, a four-star DT in the class of 2019, and Texas State’s Davon Sears, a G5 player with solid potential, are also joining on the defensive line.

As a bonus in the trenches, the Sooners picked up highly-regarded Stanford offensive lineman Walter Rouse.
