Breaking down the LIV Golf Mayakoba payout distribution for the 2023 event in Mexico, the season debut for the breakout golf series.

No doubt a shot at the PGA Tour for no longer making the trip there — or so it seems — LIV Golf began its 2023 season this week by playing at El Camaleon Golf Club in Mexico for LIV Golf Mayakoba. It was also the first look at new additions to the tour like Mito Pereira, Sebastian Munoz, Brendan Steele and several others.

While none of those guys were in contention at Mayakoba, neither were many of the stars late into the final round of the 54-hole tournament on Sunday. Cam Smith was perhaps the biggest name even close to being in the mix, but he was on the back-end of the Top 10. Instead, it was Charles Howell III and Peter Uihlein dueling with the former pulling away throughout Sunday.

When it comes to the break-off golf series, though, it’s almost always been about the money. And the LIV Golf Mayakoba payout distribution tells us that is indeed a factor with each of the 48 players in the field competing for their share of the $20 million purse.

Once again, as has been mentioned quite often, the major perk of joining LIV Golf is the guaranteed money. Not only do many players have huge stipends in the contracts they’ve signed but it’s also per tournament. With no cuts, finishing in last place still nets a player $120,000, which is a pretty terrific payday to be taking home.

LIV Golf Mayakoba payout: Team purse and distribution of prize money

There is a $5 million purse for the team portion of every LIV event. That prize money is split among the top three teams in the tournament. Here’s how that money breaks down.

  1. Crushers GC (Bryson DeChambeau, Charles Howell III, Paul Casey, Anirban Lahiri) – $3 million
  2. 4 Aces GC (Dustin Johnson, Peter Uihlein, Patrick Reed, Pat Perez) – $1.5 million
  3. Torque GC (Joaquin Niemann, Mito Pereira, Sebastian Munoz, David Puig) – $500,000

Whenever a team cashes in with these winnings, the total is split among the four members of each team, not each player getting the noted amount of money for the victory.
