Justin Jefferson won’t follow in Stefon Diggs footsteps with Vikings drama
By Mark Powell
Stefon Diggs is causing all sorts of drama in Buffalo, but current Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson won’t follow in his footsteps.
Justin Jefferson needs a new contract, and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah knows that. The Minnesota Vikings wide receiver is arguably the best at his position in the NFL.
Jefferson has two more years on his deal after the Vikings activated his fifth-year option. An extension prior to the start of this season seems likely, however, as Minnesota would rather not table negotiations until next offseason, when Jefferson will be entering the final season of his deal.
“I had a lot of stuff going on,” Jefferson told reporters regarding his absence from OTAs. “I mean they didn’t really, you know, force (me) to come back too much. So, it didn’t seem like I was missing too, too much. But they definitely wanted me back here. (I) wanted to be back here.”
Jefferson did miss OTAs, but he was back for mandatory minicamp.
Vikings: Justin Jefferson is no Stefon Diggs
Stefon Diggs, the former Vikings wideout who was traded to the Buffalo Bills in part because of his own contract dispute, is up to no good again, creating drama with the likely playoff-bound Bills. Diggs contract isn’t the issue this time around, and Josh Allen hinted at some drama within the organization as to his top target’s discontent.
“I think we’re just, as an organization, maybe not communicating the right way with everything,” Allen said. “So again, just trying to talk and listen at the same time and hear him out. And like I said, just try to move this forward as quickly and as respectfully as possible.”
Jefferson, meanwhile, expects to attend training camp even if his contract situation isn’t resolved. That’s a good sign for Minnesota, because there is no guarantee said deal is in place by later this summer.
