We are less than a day away from the first Sunday of the 2021 NFL season, and there are plenty of bets to be placed on the first week’s slate of games.

So just who is the public betting on in this first week?

WynnBET Senior Trader Motoi Pearson spoke exclusively to BetSided about which teams the public is backing and who the sharps are on ahead of Week 1.

“The sharps are in on the [Cleveland] Browns and [New Orleans] Saints,” Pearson said. “The public is riding two well-known favorites in the [Kansas City] Chiefs and [Green Bay] Packers.”

The Chiefs are currently a 5.5-point favorite against the Browns in Week 1, while Green Bay is a 3.5-point favorite in a neutral site game against New Orleans. The game was moved to Jacksonville in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida.

Green Bay and Kansas City are favorites for a reason, as they both have star quarterbacks and winning pedigrees. However, sharps are clearly seeing an opportunity, as Green Bay technically being a road favorite has provided some nice value on taking Jameis Winson and the New Orleans Saints to cover at 3.5 points. That line has actually gone down from the 4.5 it was originally at when the game was moved to Jacksonville.

Fading the public can be a good strategy at times for bettors, and it actually would have been great if you decided to do so in the Thursday night opener between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The public was so high on the Bucs, that the line at WynnBET closed at Tampa Bay -9.5. The Bucs still won the opener, but only by two points, leaving Cowboys bettors as the ones who could celebrate.
