4 starters the Cardinals can acquire via trade at the Winter Meetings
By Curt Bishop
2. Logan Gilbert
While it's unclear if the Seattle Mariners would actually be willing to give up Gilbert, their recent moves suggest that it's a possibility.
Last night, they shipped Jarred Kelenic, Marco Gonzales, and Evan White off to the Atlanta Braves, which means a fire sale may be underway in the Pacific Northwest.
Gilbert is a pitcher the Cardinals have previously expressed interest in, and he could also fit into their rotation next to Gray. The 26-year-old logged 190 innings during the regular season and struck out 189 batters. He also won 13 games and posted an ERA of 3.73.
Gilbert may not be an ace, but he can be considered a solid No. 2 starter and would greatly benefit the Cardinals, who need one more frontline pitcher to round out their 2024 rotation.
As is the case for any frontline pitcher available in trades, the Cardinals will have to pay a hefty price, potentially even trading away somebody like Nolan Gorman, Tommy Edman, Masyn Winn, or even Brendan Donovan in order to meet the asking price.
It remains to be seen if St. Louis will be willing and able to part with some of their top young players.
