Power ranking every NFL quarterback situation going into training camp

After a wild offseason in the NFL, most teams know who their starting quarterback is going to be during the 2024 NFL season. We emphasize "most' because there are still quite a few teams who have question marks under center.

6. Los Angeles Chargers
Projected Starter: Justin Herbert

This one might be a surprise, but Justin Herbert is legitimately a superstar. He can bring a team to the playoffs on his own. He wasn’t able to do it last season, but that was because he got hurt. With Herbert under center, the Los Angeles Chargers always have a chance to win. Now, with Jim Harbaugh back in the NFL, Herbert finally has a coach with a track record of success.

We acknowledge how terrible last season was. It was the season where if something could go wrong, it did go wrong. We also acknowledge that the Chargers made some strange moves on the offense, leaving them with Joshua Palmer as their number-one receiver. Ladd McConkey was a great pick in the second round who can eventually grow into a number one, but it puts them in a strange position this season where they don’t really know how the depth chart will play out. It’s a huge difference from the safety that comes with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

The backup situation is not great, with Easton Stick and Max Duggan slated to play behind Herbert. It should be better, and there’s still time to update that.

It’s all about how Herbert comes back from injury, but this ranking shows that Herbert is expected to return with a vengeance. A fully healthy Herbert should be at the top of the league, even in a division with the Chiefs. They should be fighting for the division title every year.
