The Best of the NFC West: Quarterbacks

Written by Scott Allen | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | 12th Man Rising (Seahawks), Raising Zona (Cardinals), Ramblin' Fan (Rams)

We at raisingzona.com, along with ramblinfan.com, 12thmanrising.com, and ninernoise.com are currently working to come up with the best NFC West players, an “NFC West All-Star Team” if you will.
Today we look at the quarterback position.
Arizona Cardinals: Matt Leinart
Leinart takes over for Kurt Warner and doesn’t have many career stats to back him as an “All-Star”.  He’s far from it, but he’s who Arizona has now.  He has 14 career TD’s and 20 interceptions.
Seattle Seahawks:  Matt Hasselbeck
Hasselbeck’s career has taken a sharp downturn the past couple of seasons thanks to injuries.  However he is a 3-time Pro Bowler with a lifetime [...]

Hitting Two Birds with the Same Stone

Written by Bobby Zijiac | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | NHL, Too Many Men On The Site (NHL)

On the eve of Free Agency Day, two Canadian teams were able to add at the expense of two teams out West. One in need on the back six, one in need up front. Kris Versteeg and Jim Vandermeer are the newest faces north of the border, although Canada’s teams shouldn’t be done yet. Watch out, or we’ll throw Jarome Iginla at you.
The Edmonton Oilers started their long off-season haul today by trading impending buy-out Patrick O’Sullivan to the Phoenix Coyotes for Jim Vandermeer. Both players had underwhelming season last year, but the Oilers need a guy like Vandermeer to [...]

Michael Watt Having a Strong June

Written by Nathaniel Stoltz | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Chicken Friars (Padres)

Fort Wayne lefty Michael Watt went from highly-touted second-round pick to perceived bust by the time he turned 21 this February. Originally a Dodgers draft pick, it took him two years and a trade to get out of Rookie ball, and then he posted a 4.17 ERA with modest peripherals in Fort Wayne last year.
This year has seen Watt, still just 21, take a step forward, as he’s posted a 3.38 ERA and 67/23 K/BB in 82 2/3 innings.
In particular, he had a very strong month of June, with a 2.12 ERA and 29/5 K/BB in 34 innings. Watt looks [...]

Happy LeBron Day!

Written by Boomer | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Bear Goggles (Bears)

We interrupt this regularly scheduled Chicago Bears blog to say Happy LeBron Day. It’s July 1st and the NBA free agency period is set to get rolling.  If you’re a Chicago Bears fan and haven’t followed the Bulls since MJ headed to retirement Washington (did that really happen?), this move is bigger than the Bears getting Jay Cutler and Julius Peppers combined.  Who knows, by the time you’re reading this, he could very well already be a Bull.
Thinking about LeBron reminded me of a post I did about a year and a half ago.  It’s when LeBron’s State Farm commercial [...]

Report: Mike Miller is in demand

Written by Spence | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | DC Pro Sports Report (Wizards), NBA

Yesterday I wrote that the Wizards could use Mike Miller around next year, but I didn’t see it happening. Well, double that. Per Adrian Wojnarowski:
Mike Miller is turning into hot property, league executives say. He can expect offers starting no…

Seahawks Do Some Coke

Written by Andrew Auger | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | 12th Man Rising (Seahawks)

The raging debate (sarcasm) as to who would provide the under 21 12th Man with carbonated beverages has now reached it’s epic conclusion.
The Seahawks have signed a five year deal with Coca Cola just days after ending their sponsorship with local…

Free Agency Profiles: Dwyane Wade

Written by Danny Savitzky | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Basketball, NBA

Now that the draft has passed, it is time to focus on attention to the event that NBA fans have been anticipating for literally years. On Saving the Skyhook, I’ll do a review a day of each of the major players who figure to command the most attention come July 1 — in no particular order. Today features Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat.
Well, the negotiating period for free agency is just hours away now, and the tension is palpable. I know I didn’t get to as many of the premiere free agents as I would have liked, but as [...]

What’s Vince Wilfork up to?

Written by jamie | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Musket Fire (New England Patriots), NFL

Members of the media were sent t-shirts today that said, “Help Vince” in big white letters with the date 7/15/10 and the website patriots.com underneath. They were given no other instructions and when phone calls were made by some in the media, they were not returned. One possible clue to this mystery is that on the letter ‘N’ in the name “Vince” on the t-shirt is the Super Bowl Championship ring Wilfork won in 2005. You can see a picture of the t-shirt either here or here.
What exactly does Vince need help with? Is Vince running a charity event? Will [...]
