The fine folks at Nike have unveiled their new Christmas sneakers LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant. Each of the three NBA stars will receive a Christmas colorway for our signature shoe — the LeBron X, Kobe 8 and KD V. While Nike is known for some classic colorways, they have strayed from tradition for these new releases.
Here are the individual looks at Nike’s over the top and very festive new sneakers.
The LeBron X:
This is what Nike had to say about the holiday appropriate version of LeBron’s signature shoe:
Furthering the diamond inspiration of the LEBRON X, the design team unearths the rarest of diamond colors, red, to serve as the creative muse for this colorway. Highlighted by a sun-washed green, the shoe also features a metallic-like reflection on the vibrant red upper. Technical benefits of the LEBRON X include full-length visible Nike Zoom cushioning, dynamic Flywire technology and Hyperfuse construction.
Up next we have the Kobe 8, which looks like it was wrapped in a string of Christmas lights — either that or a snake swallowed all of the lights it could find.
What inspired this interesting look? Let Nike explain for themselves:
In keeping with the snake-inspired design of Kobe Bryant’s latest signature shoe, the KOBE 8 SYSTEM draws inspiration from the rhinoceros viper. The perfect snake skin for a holiday colorway, its bright red and yellow scales mimic a Christmas tree garland — but don’t get too close. Built for Bryant’s speed and precision, the KOBE 8 SYSTEM features a Nike Engineered Mesh upper, Lunarlon midsole and tactile traction.
Finally, we have the Christmas colorway for Kevin Durant’s KD V, which will go head to head with LeBron’s Christmas LeBron X’s when the Heat and Thunder face off at American Airline Arena on Christmas Day.
What is with the KD V being displayed on an old school television set? When Nike explained their inspiration for the shoe it made a lot more sense.
As a kid, Kevin Durant recalls getting a video game system one Christmas. Inspired by video game graphics, Nike designers created the upper design, sockliner graphic and tongue tab logo for Durant’s special Christmas Day shoe. The KD V, Durant’s most technically advanced shoe to date, features the combination of Nike Zoom (forefoot) and Nike Air (heel) cushioning along with Hyperfuse upper and dynamic heel support.
Which of the three Nike Christmas colorways is your favorite from the new releases? Personally, the LeBron X takes the most modest approach and appears the most holiday appropriate, but that KD V is something special. The unique design would catch the attention as you wore the kicks down the street. They would certainly turn heads while remaining stylish and clean.
The Christmas colorways will hit stores December 26th.
