Before the BCS Championship game, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said that he was flattered by the NFL attention he as getting, but he had no intention of leaving what he called his dream job. Then, after getting his brains bashed in by the Alabama Crimson Tide, it appears that Kelly has had a change of heart as Chris Mortensen reports Kelly has interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to the report, Kelly had previously interviewed with the Eagles and the two sides plan on revisiting the interview once Kelly returns to the country.

And yes, ‘Bama fans, now is the apporiate time to make you Brian Kelly skipped the country because we beat him commentary. Kelly can say that he didn’t leave the country because of what happened in the BCS title game, but he also said he wasn’t interested in any NFL jobs so there’s not believing a word he says.

The Eagles got burned by the other Kelly, Chip Kelly, earlier this week and have had some serious trouble in finding a viable head coaching candidate to fill the void left by the fired Andy Reid.

As of right now, there’s no reason to say Kelly will accept the job if offered to him, then again there’s no reason to say he’ll refuse it. The chances Notre Dame gets back to the title game is very slim and the chances Kelly is out in a few years is very high. Notre Dame doesn’t have a recent track history that suggests Kelly is safe long term, as they like to cycle through head coaches.

The Chicago Bears apparently perked their ears when they heard Kelly was interviewing with teams, and they too are trying to schedule an interview with him as well.
