Twice it has been reported that Rob Ryan would become the defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams and now twice that has proven to be false information. After numerous “credible” reports had Ryan going to the Rams more than just once, the team has decided to end all of the hearsay and make it official: Rob Ryan has not and will not be hired by the Rams.

The Rams cite discussions with Ryan that revealed  differences that couldn’t be bridged as the reason they will continue to look for a defensive coordinator. One of the sticking points might be the fact that Ryan runs a 3-4 defense, and did so in both Cleveland and Dallas (unsuccessfully, mind you). The Rams ran a 4-3 defense last season and did so very successfully.

Ryan said it would take five minutes before some hired him, but by our calculations it’s been over 30,000 minutes and he’s lost out on another job. The number of job openings since Ryan made that boisterous claim have also shrunk significantly, which means one of the Ryan boys is headed back to college, or he’s headed back to that beach he was on the first time his name surfaced in connection to the Rams job.
