Throughout the 2012-13 NFL season, the league, teams and individual players honored the lost lives from the horrible incident in Newtown, Connecticut when a gunman open fired on Sandy Hook Elementary School. It was an unspeakable tragedy that rocked the nation and the entire country rallied behind Newtown.

During the season, teams worth a “S.H.E.S” decal on their helmets, while players like Victor Cruz and Chris Johnson honored the victims on their cleats and gloves.

Now, the NFL is taking their support of Sandy Hook one step further with an unbelievably great gesture before Super Bowl XLVII.

Recording artist Alicia Keys will be singing the National Anthem before the game, with Beyonce performing at halftime, but there will be a group of performers before either of the superstars takes the field that will touch the nation and steal the spotlight.

USA Today confirmed with NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy on Wednesday that a group of twenty six students from Sandy Hook Elementary School will be performing America the Beautiful during the Super Bowl XLVII pre-game show.

The NFL will be flying the students and their families to New Orleans, where they will perform before Alicia Keys takes midfield.

There aren’t enough words to describe just how amazing this move is by the league. No one will ever forget the day that those twenty six children had their lives taken away from them far too early and this is a great way to let their families and Newtown, Connecticut know that they are still in our thoughts.
