Last year, Los Angeles Lakers fans and players got really excited when they thought they had pulled off a trade to acquire New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul. But before anyone could get too excited and bust out their Chris Paul jerseys, the NBA vetoed the trade and Paul ended up being shipped to the other Los Angeles team — the Clippers.

And the rest, at least so far, is history.

But even a year later Lakers guard Kobe Bryant isn’t over the fact that the NBA intervened in the trade and canceled it. He’s not fuming, but he didn’t pass up a golden opportunity to take a nice little pop-shot at the NBA over what they did during the winter of 2011.

Obviously this was an innocent ribbing by Kobe but he’s clearly still a little mad about the NBA blowing up an agreed upon trade that would have landed Paul on the Lakers and not the Clippers. It’s interesting to think about where the Lakers might be this season if they had landed Paul as they still would have had the assets to land Dwight Howard as well.

A roster of Kobe, CP3 and Howard would likely be unstoppable, but then again we all thought Howard coming to Los Angeles would turn things upside down. The only thing upside down right now is the Lakers so Kobe can rib all he wants, there’s nothing to say Chris Paul coming to the Lakers wouldn’t have been a disaster.

Chances are it would have been brilliant though, and Kobe will stew forever about it.
