Atlanta Hawks small forward Josh Smith is at the tip of everyone’s tongue as we close in on today’s 3:00 p.m. NBA trade deadline. While the Hawks are sifting through the offers to decide which will best suit their franchise, it is being reported that the Hawks prefer to send Smith to a Western Conference team.

It’s a move that would make obvious sense and a strategy that many teams use when shipping star players. You want the player you trade to play in a different conference so the chances that the move comes back to haunt you is minimal.

Some of the teams that have been in the Smith discussions are the Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs and most recently the Houston Rockets.

Of course, the only teams in that bunch from the Western Conference are the Spurs and Rockets.

Many believe that the Bucks have the best offer on the table for Smith and the Hawks star has helped matters by reportedly being open to re-signing in Milwaukee.

It is going to be a drama-filled afternoon as we close in on the deadline, so be sure to stay tuned to FanSided.com for the latest breaking news and trade rumors.
