Lauren Silberman: Female Kicker's Regional Combine Performance Cut Short By Injury

Lauren Silberman made history on Sunday as the first woman to ever participate in a league sponsored tryout as she attempted to achieve the impossible during the NFL Regional Combine in New Jersey.

Unfortunately for Silberman, her shot at impressing NFL scouts fell short as she aggravated a quad injury that occured last week during training.

Per USA Today:

"Silberman pulled up lame after her first kick, which traveled only 16 yards and barely crossed midfield at the New York Jets’ indoor training facility. Silberman landed awkwardly and hobbled a bit as the ball bounced at the 49-yard line.Silberman was getting ready for her third attempt when she turned toward combine officials and asked if she could see a trainer. After a brief consultation, she walked off to the sideline with a member of the training staff. About 10 minutes later, Silberman was escorted to the side of the field where her undisclosed injury was evaluated."

Silberman returned to the field and was hoping to give it another shot, but she was moving around with a noticeable limp and never kicked the ball again. It is a shame than an injury prevented the former Wisconsin soccer player from giving it her all, but just getting to the point that she did is a major accomplishment and a nice moment for female athletics.
