The Kansas City Chiefs released Eric Winston on Wednesday in a move that was met with negative reaction. Unfortunately for the Chiefs fans, there is nothing they can do now and the reality is that a top ten right tackle in the league is on the free agent market.

Don’t feel bad for Winston, though.

There is no doubt that he will generate a lot of interest as soon as teams are able to negotiate with his interest. Winston allowed just three sacks last season, according to ProFootballFocus, in over 1,000 snaps. When it comes to right tackles, Winston is as good as it gets.

A logical fit for Winston would be the Miami Dolphins.

During the offseason just a year ago, Winston took a visit to Miami and flirted with signing before ultimately choosing the Chiefs.

For the Dolphins, adding Winston would make a lot of sense as well. They are expected to lose left tackle Jake Long in free agency. Signing Winston would allow them to slide last year’s second-round pick Jonathan Martin over to the left side and immediately plug the hole at right tackle.

Both tackle positions would be secure and Ryan Tannehill would be able to drop back to pass without fearing for his life.

Winston is only 29-years-old and still has a lot left to offer a franchise. He played well last season and he will get an opportunity to help a team moving forward. Winston should be one of the most highly sought after tackles on the open market.
