The Tennessee Titans were so preoccupied with signing Peyton Manning last season that they lost out on signing Mario Williams and effectively struck out altogether in free agency. This year though, the Titans are going to go hard after a top-notch defensive end and they already have a list of names they will be pursuing.

Tennessee is expected to make a run after Osi Umenyiora, Dwight Freeney, Cliff Avril and John Abraham once tampering becomes legal this weekend. Many believe that Umenyiora is going to be the guy the Titans covet the most, but Pro Football Talk suggests that John Abraham may end up being the guy that falls into their laps.

Last year the Titans were in the mix to sign Abraham before he returned to Atlanta, but Abraham has already been cut by the Falcons and he’s likely not going be as expensive as Avril or Umenyiora will end up being. Dwight Freeney may also come cheap but it appears there will be more competition to sign Freeney then there will be for Abraham.

Avril is an option but he’s without a doubt the most expensive option as the Cleveland Browns are already rumored to be priming themselves to make a run at both Avril and Ravens linebacker Paul Kruger.

Unlike last season, Abraham is likely going to be the Titans Plan-B if negotiations fall through with someone higher on their wish list. But if one thing is certain, it’s that the Titans are going to go hard after a defensive end and they have no distractions this offseason to pull them away from fully investing themselves in pursuing whoever they want.
