Another day, another Darrelle Revis trade rumor. It was just a day ago that a report surfaced claiming the New York Jets had several teams interested in a trade for their star cornerback including the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons, but both teams have slowly backed themselves out of any trade talks.

Now, on the opposite side of the spectrum, a report surfaced on Thursday that Revis’ ultimate preference is to remain with the Jets.

He wants to remain a Jet,” a source told the New York Post. “He has never asked to be traded. He loves playing for Ryan and knows the last thing Ryan wants as a lame duck coach is to lose his best player.”

The source went on to say that Revis loves the New York/New Jersey area and the fan base of the Jets.

Unfortunately for Revis, the team may not keep him despite his best wishes even though everyone agrees it is a poor decision to give up on your best player.

While on the outside it looks like Revis just wants to remain in a Jets uniform, there is likely more to his stance.

If Revis was able to play out one more year with the Jets, then he would have 16 games to prove he is fully healthy and he could rebuild his image as the best cover cornerback in the game. Then, when he hits free agency in 2014, Revis could once again demand the contract that he wants.

Revis isn’t stupid. He knows that his value is hurting right now and the market isn’t that high for a player coming off of a torn ACL.

He likely wants every opportunity to show off his skills and earn the big money deal he feels he deserves.
